Interview: Brian Downey (Alive & Dangerous, Thin Lizzy)

Interview by Cameron Arndt 2018 marks the 40th Anniversary of Thin Lizzy’s iconic Live And Dangerous album (it was recorded in 1977, but released in 1978). In 2017 the band’s stock has arguably never been higher. Offshoot band Black Star Riders have just released their third album of original Lizzy-inspired hard rock, while the original band’s biting twin lead guitar style has influenced huge bands like Iron Maiden, Metallica and countless others through the years – and of course frontman …

Interview: Alan Nimmo (King King)

Interview by Cameron Arndt   King King will return next month with the release of 4th album, Exile & Grace, on 6th October. It’s a spirited blast through ten self-penned new tracks that follow a more robust, rock & roll direction to their previous efforts – though with plenty of blues & soul in the grooves and seams of the music – read the Rock And Roll Traffic review here! It’s been a difficult leg in a whirlwind few years for …

Interview/Feature: Matt Pearce & Nik Taylor-Stoakes (Voodoo Six)

Interview/Article by Cameron Arndt It’s late summer of 2014. By any reasonable expectation the five members of Voodoo Six should have been on a high following the critical success of 2013’s Songs To Invade Countries To record, and the ensuing tour as main support to Iron Maiden. The band had played in sold out arenas all over Europe, to great acclaim. They followed this up with their own, smaller, but no less well received headlining tour in the UK. Thoughts …

Interview: Pure Grief On New Double A-Side ‘Hearse Me/Part Liquid’

Wick/Thurso three-piece Pure Grief last week released their excellent new double A side single, Hearse Me/Part Liquid – as well as a video for the first of the two tracks. As with their previous releases, including last year’s dual singles Pure and Grief,  Hearse Me subverts the downbeat nature of the band’s name, the song title and even the somewhat desolate setting of the video with another supremely catchy slab of heavy alt rock. Part Liquid, meanwhile, channels Biffy Clyro …

On & Offstage… at the Edinburgh Blues & Rock Festival (Edinburgh Corn Exchange, 29/07/17)

On & Offstage #6 Review/Interviews by Cameron Arndt, all photos courtesy and © Stuart Stott After a successful first year in 2016, the Edinburgh Blues & Rock Festival returned to the Corn Exchange last week boasting another sterling – and surprisingly eclectic – line-up of some of the best blues/rock talent that Scotland, Britain, and indeed the world has to offer. This time Rock And Roll Traffic was there to catch all the action, sample the atmosphere backstage, and grab many …

New Video/Album News: (She Don’t) Gimme No Lovin’ (King King)

Today King King release the video for the first single from their upcoming 4th record, Exile And Grace. (She Don’t) Gimme No Lovin’ is a full tilt slab of classic, hook filled rock – a heavy blast that Thunder would be proud of, led in by a guitar riff reminiscent of the synth on Won’t Get Fooled Again. The chorus is immediately catchy, and delivered in the video by Alan Nimmo with palpable glee. The new single was mixed by Chris Sheldon (Foo Fighters, Feeder …

Interview: Wilko Johnson

Interview by Cameron Arndt In a world beset by tumultuous political upheaval, wars, poverty and, on a smaller scale, seemingly unending sad occurrences – not least the perceived epidemic of celebrity deaths in 2016 – the story of Wilko Johnson is a rare, heartwarming and inspirational tale. The legendary former Dr Feelgood/Blockheads guitarist had been ticking along quite nicely in his later years, touring with his vital, high octane solo trio when, in January 2013, he was diagnosed with late …

On & Offstage… with King King/Bad Touch (O2 ABC Glasgow, 05/05/17)

On & Offstage #6 By Cameron Arndt, photos courtesy of and © Ritchie Birnie/Jace Media ‘If you’re going to see Mr Rodgers then have a ball, it’ll be a great show, but if you’re coming to see us lads… bring a helmet and knee pads… we’re gonna burst through the roof!’ So proclaimed King King singer/guitarist and leader, Alan Nimmo, on Facebook a few days ahead of tonight’s show. King King are a band riding high with justified confidence, having emerged …

On & Offstage… with the Danny Bryant Big Band (La Belle Angele, Edinburgh – 28/04/17)

On & Offstage #5 Written by Cameron Arndt, photos courtesy of and © Stuart Stott ‘I think because I do blues/rock most people think that’s what I listen to, and I have, but now it’s sort of BB King, and a lot of stuff that was recorded in the 60s, and even the 70s. I don’t mean 70s music, but when the blues guys took those big road bands out in the 70s. That’s the stuff I really love.’ Danny …
